The New York Jets franchise was among the charter members of American Football League (AFL) and was named the “Titans of New York” originally. After playing for three seasons, the team changed its name to the New York Jets. By winning the 1968 AFL title, the Jets earned the right to play in Super Bowl III against the champions of the National Football League (NFL), the Baltimore Colts. The Jets upset the Colts in the game and in the aftermath of the upset, the AFL was deemed a worthy partner to the NFL as the two leagues merged. The current New York Jets logo is a modified version of the logo from the 60s and 70s.
