The Carolina Panthers began playing in the NFL in 1995 and are based in Charlotte, North Carolina. They were one of two expansion teams to begin play that year, the other being the Jacksonville Jaguars. The franchise is supported in both North Carolina and South Carolina, hence the team locale name Carolina.
