The Thunder NBA franchise was originally established as the Seattle SuperSonics in 1967. The team’s original nickname was named for Seattle’s aerospace industry and usually shortened to “Sonics”. Later in the team history, it changed to the shortened nickname and became the Seattle Sonics. The team moved to OKC in 2008 and was renamed Oklahoma City Thunder. Based on a shield shape, the Oklahoma City Thunder logo features the letters “OKC” over a part of a basketball and the word “Thunder” above it.
