The Miami Dolphins joined the American Football League (AFL) when they were was awarded an expansion franchise in 1965. In the early 70s, the Dolphins were a successful team, becoming the first team to advance to the Super Bowl for 3 consecutive seasons. To this date, the 1972 Miami Dolphins are the only team to have a perfect season in NFL history. In that season the football team won every single regular season game, two playoff games, and Super Bowl VII.

The old retro logo of the Dolphins featured a leaping dolphin with a football helmet bearing the alphabet “M” in the middle of a sunburst. In 2013, the team completely redesigned the old Dolphins logo with no helmet and the fin up. The new Dolphins logo was slightly altered in 2018 with classic colors of aqua and orange.
