Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was created by American comic book authors Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984. The original comics followed Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo, four anthropomorphic turtle brothers trained in ninjitsu who fight evil Shredder and the Foot Clan in New York City. The classic animated series premiered in 1987 and ran for almost a decade.
