Denver franchise was founded as the Denver Larks in 1967 as a charter franchise of the American Basketball Association (ABA), but changed its name to Rockets before the first season started. In 1974, it changed its name to the Nuggets in anticipation of joining the NBA since the nickname Rockets was already in use by Houston. Denver Nuggets first logo was “Maxie the Miner”. This old Nuggets logo was in use until 1981. Then came the classic Nuggets logo of the 80s and early 90s, featuring a Denver skyline in a rainbow blocked colored design.
