The San Francisco 49ers entered professional football in 1946 as a member of the All-America Football Conference and was the very first team in the four major sports to originate on the West Coast. The team’s nickname came from the California’s gold rush gold-seekers in the 1800’s. 49ers logo consists of the initials for the city with the classic black and maroon colors and a touch of gold.
