Google is the world’s most popular search engine. It was founded on September 4, 1998, by computer scientists Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were PhD students at Stanford. Page and Brin originally nicknamed the new search engine BackRub, because the system checked backlinks to estimate the importance of a site. Now, Google is under the holding company Alphabet and has become a multinational technology company focusing on online advertising, search engine technology, cloud computing, computer software, quantum computing, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, and consumer electronics.
