Tampa Bay Lightning joined the NHL in 1992. The Lightning nickname was chosen because in in Tampa, light show rampages through the sky in the bay area more frequently than anywhere else in the world. In 2012, the team logo was simplified depicting a flash of zigzag lightning striking from top to bottom.
