Although two franchises bear the name Winnipeg Jets, they have different history. The Jets team established in 1972 have since moved to Phoenix and became the Arizona Coyotes. The current Winnipeg Jets was first the Atlanta Thrashers which came to the NHL in 1999. The team was sold to True North Sports in 2011 and moved to Winnipeg and became the Jets again.
